Meiomi offers a distinctive Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, cultivated in cool-climate appellations along California’s coastline that have proven to be ideal for growing Burgundy grape varietals. To create the signature Meiomi profile, owner and winemaker, Joseph Wagner, blends fruit from three exceptional maritime regions for richly layered, well-balanced and expressive wines.
Meiomi Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are blended from grapes sourced from vineyards located in coastal California wine regions: Santa Barbara, Monterey and Sonoma counties. All vineyards have been chosen for their unique expression of aromas, flavors and textures.
The most amazing thing about Sonoma is the diversity of soils and climates. There are pockets of greatness all over the place and wines that seem to exemplify the area with their intense concentration of fruit and minerality, all-the-while maintaining a balanced acidity. It truly creates the core of the Meiomi blend.
Sitting between Sonoma and Santa Barbara are the valleys of Monterey. Two things that can be relied upon here are strong winds and sun, creating grapes with thick skins and dark, hard seeds for more textural wines. A key element here is the wind bringing cool weather along with it, keeping the acidity in balance.
About 300 miles south of Sonoma lay the sandy loam soils of Santa Barbara. Long known as California’s spice box when it comes to flavor, the vineyards were some of the first planted on the coast with great hang time for flavor development. Come August, the warm Santa Ana winds barrel through, providing a push for full ripeness in September.
