The 2022 vintage started with a relatively cool growing season through spring and summer. Harvest started quickly the first week of September during a record-setting heat wave throughout California. Following the heat wave, the consistent moderate temperatures created a bit of a compressed harvest but allowed us to pick when grapes were at their optimal ripeness. White and rosé grapes maintained their natural acidity and fully expressed their aromatics and flavors before being picked. Red grapes were able to ripen at a regular pace, developing dark fruit characteristics and rich, rounded tannins. As harvest neared the end, the cooler weather resumed, and harvest stretched into the second week of November. The result is beautiful wines showcasing the best California has to offer.
Maritime influences in the evening tempered the afternoon’s warm sun, allowing for a long hang time and resulting in fully developed, concentrated flavors. Fermentation took place entirely in stainless steel tanks with minimal intervention, and lees stirring created a velvety mouthfeel. All the wine underwent 100% malolactic fermentation and was aged with French oak for further depth and roundness.
